May 2009 - Added more songs (featuring me only): Open up (my own composition)
February 2009: Red House (remixed version Feb. 5th) Before you accuse me (remixed version Feb. 5th) Green Onion Soup (remixed version Feb. 5th) Like it this way (remixed version Feb. 5th) Frågor utan svar (remixed version Feb. 5th) All songs were made as part of my blues repertoire that I am compiling. My goal is to have 45 minutes of such material and to perform them on my own. I will have bass, drums and maybe some keyboard pre-recorded and then do the vocals and guitar playing live on stage. The songs above is the start. In the versions here, I added vocals and guitar parts to make it a complete demo version. "The thrill is gone" is a song I always liked. Here I sing and play all the instruments including a saxophone solo (not on a real sax though...) "Open up" is a song I wrote for Blues Energy at the Jazz and Blues festival performance in 2009. It's an instrumental, just basic stuff. "Red House" is the blues masterpiece from Jimi Hendrix. I never recorded any of his songs before, but in this context I think it was a very suitable choice. I love his work and his way of playing guitar, but I have difficult to make versions of his material, because it will never sound anything like the genius himself... But "Red House" can be made in so many ways, and is a straight blues, so ok then! :-) The vocals was recorded during my period of a bad flu. But I kept that recorded singing of mine as it was, because it sounds very "personal"... Used my Fender on this one. Bass sound from Mixcraft, played on E-keys 37 keyboard. "Before you accuse me" is a song I have played many times live in different bands and occasions. So it was natural to me to make a version for my solo project. Both Fender and Gibson are used. Hammond B3 sound from Mixcraft's sound library, played by me on the the Keystation 49. Bass and drums are from Mixcraft. "Green Onion Soup" is made just like a playground for improvisation, no big deal.... It's based on the song "Green onions" of course. Here I used the Gibson Les Paul. And the B3 sound from Mixcraft, played on my super small Midi keyboard E-keys 37. Bass sound from Reason, again played on the E-keys. Drums from EZ-Drummer. "Frågor utan svar" (Questions without answers)is a song I wrote many years ago. First time recorded like this. Fender was used. Bass sound from Reason, played on Keystation 49. Drums from EZ-Drummer. "Like it this way" has two guitarists playing similar lines during the solos on the recording that I listened to (with Fleetwood Mac). As I want to capture those duelling guitars with my single guitar on stage, I created a delay on the guitar sound, so that another guitar echoes the first one throughout the solo parts, in sync with the tempo of the song. It makes it sound almost like two guitars... Gibson guitar, Reason bass and EZ-Drummer software.. All vocals on the tracks were recorded with a very basic computer headset (like on "Simply Better"), so it was not the perfect setup.. :-) I recorded all songs in Mixcraft 4, a very nice software. All guitar sounds were recorded with my Boss Gt-8 floor box connecteddirectly into the pc. It was very easy to find good sounds with this setup.
In the blue sky is my latest song, just completed (Aug 2008). The song has it's origin in my song "In the sky". I just started to play that one in a more mellow way more or less accidentally, and it later resulted in making a new song. I use the Gibson electric guitar for the rhythm parts and the Fender (making it's debut here) for the melodies and solo. The flute, strings and bass are created with Reason software. I dedicate this song to my late mother. The last part of the song is a way to describe the feeling of the final "good-bye" to her. Download /listen to "In the blue sky" here. Simply Better The official version, for a company event. I wrote the music, a colleague wrote the lyrics. The song was recorded in a studio in US. (So I am not playing anything on this version.) Read more on the Simply Better page Simply Better Duet version This is an un-official duet version, never published. I think it's quite nice. Simply Better Ulf-demo My demo version. This is what I sent to the producer in US, who took it from there and made the official verion. There is not much guitar on this song actually, apart from the rhytmh part. What you hear was recorded with the Gibson Les Paul (it's first recording assignment). All keyboard stuff was recorded on my M-Audio Keystation 49e MIDI keyboard using Reason software. Andreas from Sweet Energy did the vocals on my demo. A big thanks to him for that contribution. He showed up on short notice I recommend you check out the Simply Better page for more info about this project. In the sky (full version) Recorded May 2007. Ibanez electric + the new black acoustic guitar above are used. In the sky (short version) (Same as above, but not so much crazy guitar in the end... For you who prefer the song without that part, hehe...) Sweet Prue Recorded in Jan. 2007. All guitar parts played on the Ibanez. Winning (new remastered version Jan. 2007). This version has a softer sound. The original "gun-fire" sounding snare drum was a bit unpleasant. I was not aware of this until I listened to it later, with another set of headphones. Ibanez electric used. Celebration Song Recorded Nov. 2006 with my nylon stringed acoustic guitar. Read about the background of the song here: Celebration_Song.html Anthares Recorded August 2006. Check out the Anthares page for more into Winning Recorded August 2005.
And a song recorded at home, just me and my electric guitar. Written by Eric Clapton. Ulf with his guitar - Wonderful tonight
